This is perfectly put. The whole deal here with all of this is structural changes by themselves don’t build housing. Building housing builds housing, and for that to become reality, it’s fundamentally a matter of dollars and cents.
Thank you for writing this. It’s disheartening but not shocking that DC is flirting with making the same mistake that Chicago (Brandon Johnson - 34% approval rating) and Seattle (Katie Wilson - struggling mightily) have made.
A pragmatic platform to solve problems and encourage growth (McDuffie) will help grow shared prosperity in the city. Trying to implement an ideological fantasyland that rejects economic realities and contains zero fiscal discipline (JLG) would be a painful experience for DC.
JLG has never said or implied that she does not see the sprouting of new neighborhoods in NoMa, Navy Yard, etc as a success. To the contrary she has specifically cited NoMa as a model to be replicated elsewhere in the city. Your juxtaposition of a quote that had nothing to do with that is borderline dishonest.
